FAQ

General Questions:

What exactly does Iron Mule Coffee do?

We roast coffee and produce cold brew with specialty green sourced from all over the world. We deliver it weekly to your office, café, restaurant, or home. We also consult on brewing equipment, install taps for cold brew, and get everything dialed in so your team or customers can enjoy great coffee day after day.

Why don’t you offer single serve pre-ground coffee packets?

In general these single serve methods make poor coffee, create waste, and, in many cases can be more expensive than specialty coffee! Our freshly roasted coffee is just as easy to brew, serve and enjoy plus it won’t be sitting in a case under the sink for months on end.

Can you grind my coffee?

Absolutely! For our office and wholesale customers we do offer ground coffee. Since we are delivering weekly, your coffee will still be fresh and delicious even though it is pre-ground. We don’t recommend pre-grinding for larger volume wholesalers or if the coffee will be sitting for longer than ~10 days however.

How do I order and when will I get my coffee?

Our office service consists of an initial assessment and quote as well as a free, in-office taste test if desired. Once accepted you will receive a rotating selection of coffee every week. Accounts are invoiced monthly only for what was delivered! We will check your supply upon delivery and adjust accordingly to make sure you are never getting too much or too little coffee. Wholesale price lists are available for café/restaurant customers and all orders are received by Monday to guarantee a Friday delivery.

Do you co-pack coffee and cold brew?

We do! From co-branding, to custom blending, to recipe development you can utilize our FDA licensed facility and product development experience to expand or launch your own brand of coffee or cold brewed beverages. Please contact for details.

Will you serve coffee or cold brew at my event?

We would love to be able to support everyone's events, however with two farmer's market's and trailside service, we get busy! Please don't hesitate to contact us with details for pricing and availability though.

Richard the Mule Questions:

How old is Richard?

The straight answer is that we are not entirely sure.  The consensus between our vet and other mule owners is that Richard is roughly 19-years-old.

How long can mules live?

Mules can live and work into their mid-thirties.  They tend to live longer than horses because they are just that awesome!!!

Did you own Richard before Café Mulé?

Richard joined the team specifically to serve coffee in the Boise Foothills.  It was a big career change for him and a leap of faith for the rest of us.

What did Richard do before Café Mulé?

Richard was a part of a sheep herding operation before Café Mulé and was used to pack camps and supplies.  Richard's last home was in Weiser, ID.

How much can Richard carry?

Mules are very strong!!!  Typically, though, they carry 20% of their body weight when packing supplies and up to 30% when carrying a rider.  As Richard is roughly an 1,100 lbs mule, he can carry a bit over 200 lbs and do it with ease!

Will you ever get another mule to keep Richard company?

We don't anticipate needing more mules for our regular operations, but we would love to have a buddy for Richard (and a back-up in case he ever gets injured or sick).  We also just really enjoy working with these awesome animals!  At present Richard has some horse buddies he lives with, and we are focussing on growing the coffee and cold brew side of our business.  If we do well enough, though, another mule might be in our future someday--we sure hope so!!!
